An investigation is underway after the discovery of an injured badger with rope around its neck.
It was found beside Annadorn Road in Downpatrick.
The badger died a short while later and a post-mortem is being carried out.
Officers say there are clear signs of badger-baiting and it's being treated as an animal cruelty case.
They're keen to speak to anyone who may have information.
