Around £1000 has been stolen from an elderly woman during a burglary in West Belfast.
The intruder broke in to the 83 year old's house in the Mayo Street area on Thursday afternoon.
Police say the pensioner, who lives alone, had been saving the money to buy Christmas presents for her family.
A PSNI spokesperson said:
"What makes this particularly repulsive is that the victim of this is an 83 year old lady who lives alone. Get that, an 83 years old lady!!!! Who in all good conscience can do this?"
"The money was for her to buy Christmas presents for her family. I mean seriously, how can anyone do this?"
"I am itching to catch the person who feels it is ok to sneak into an elderly person’s home and take her Christmas money, so if any of you good folk out there have any information as who did this please ring Detectives at Musgrave on 101 and quote reference number 1454 of 22/11/18 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111"
