Peter Weir is targeting the 17th of August for those going into primary seven and about to sit GCSEs and A-Levels.
Mr. Weir made the announcement in an online meeting hosted by the National Association of Head Teachers.
It would be part of a phased return with other pupils back in the classroom in September.
