Abercorn Barracks closure could create local tourism opportunities.
That's from South Down MP Margaret Ritchie.
Ballykinler base is among fifty-six sites set to shut across the UK, saving the Government around a hundred and forty million pounds a year.
Mrs Ritchie says the closure could be a boost for the area:
"There's quite extensive land within Ballykinler and maybe there is a possibility of developing a tourist facility in it or adjacent to it. Remember that the local residents already have access provided for them to the beach, there's a magnificent beach... and I think that facility needs to be utilised as a tourist resource."
