Bomb found outside house made safe during security operation in Dungiven

Police have confirmed the discovery of a viable device outside a house in County Derry/Londonderry. 

It was made safe during a security operation in Dungiven on Saturday.

The Drumrane Road area was sealed off and residents moved from their homes for several hours.

The alert ended on Saturday evening with the bomb removed for forensic tests.

Police have issued an appeal to the public:

Detectives are appealing for information following the report of a suspicious device being left outside a property in the Drumrane Road area of Dungiven on Saturday morning (November 27th). 

Detective Sergeant Sarah Jane Moyne said: “We received a report in the early hours of this morning of a suspicious object being left in the area. 

“Police and Ammunition Technical Officers attended the scene, and the object has now been declared as a viable device and has been taken away for further examination.

“Residents, who were temporarily evacuated, have returned to their homes, and cordons have been lifted.

“I am keen to thank local people, and all those inconvenienced, for their patience as we worked to make the area safe. 

“I am also appealing to anyone with information, or who witnessed anything suspicious, to contact us on 101 quoting reference number 353 of 27/11/21.”
