A husband and wife have been remanded in custody after appearing in court accused of murdering their five-year-old child.
Nadia Zofia Kalinowska died after an incident at a house in Newtownabbey on the outskirts of Belfast on Sunday December 15.
Nadia's mother Alexsandra Wahab, 25, and step-father Abdul Wahab, 31, appeared in Belfast Magistrates' Court accused of murder; grievous bodily harm with intent; and causing or allowing the death of a child.
The court heard the accused deny the charges and claim Nadia, a primary one pupil, sustained the fatal injuries when she fell down a flight of stairs in their Fernagh Drive home in the middle of the night while they were both asleep.

District judge Amanda Henderson refused their applications for bail on the grounds both posed a flight risk.
They were remanded into custody to appear before court again on January 17.
