Dedicated phoneline set up for information over Gilmore murder

Police have set up a dedicated phone line so that people can pass on information about the murder of Geordie Gilmore in Carrickfergus.

It's after the PSNI received a second anonymous letter with vital information about the loyalists death in March.

The 44 year old father was shot while driving his car in the Pinewood Avenue area two months ago.

It is believed the former South East Antrim UDA commander was killed as part of a loyalist feud in South East Antrim.

Just weeks ago, his friend Colin Horner was shot in a supermarket car park in Bangor.

Police returned to the Castlemara estate in Carrickfergus yesterday to speak to people living in the area.

They're encouraging anyone who may feel intimidated in speaking out to contact them in the strictest confidence via a new dedicated phone line.

Detective Inspector Darren McCartney said: “Police have received two anonymous letters recently which contain information vital to this murder investigation and other serious crime in the area. 
 

“My team and I spoke to people living in Castlemara today and delivered letters to houses in the area appealing for information and also for the authors of any of these anonymous correspondences to come forward and speak to police as soon as possible. This is vital in order for detectives to look into this information and take this matter forward. 
 

“I understand these people may have concerns, or may have been intimidated into not speaking with investigating officers, but I would like to reassure them that any information passed to police will be treated in the strictest confidence.
