A man in his 20s has been arrested following an attempted robbery in Limavady yesterday.
A member of staff at a Vivo store on Drumsurn Road was ordered to open the till by a man armed with a knife at around 12.20pm
The assailant, who jumped onto the counter and tried to open the till, eventually made off empty handed.
The suspect has been released on bail.
Sinn Féin Councillor Brenda Chivers described the incident as an attack on the local community.
"The Vivo in Drumsurn provides the local community with a valuable service and the community are shocked at this robbery.
“This brazen daylight robbery is also an attack on this community who depend so much on this service.
“I would like to extend sympathy to the shop assistant who was subjected to this traumatic ordeal.
"I would appeal to anyone who has information about this robbery to contact the police.”
Detective Sergeant Higgins said: "A report was received at approximately 12.20pm that a man, armed with what was described as a kitchen type knife, entered the premises and ordered a staff member to open the till, before jumping onto the counter and attempting to open it himself.
"The man made off empty handed.
"A man in his 20s was arrested and later released on police bail.
"Investigations are continuing, and anyone who was in the area at the time, or may have any information that could assist, is asked to call 101 quoting reference number 788 of 25/06/21."
