A 36 year old man has been arrested in the Crumlin area on suspicion of kidnapping, aggravated burglary and firearm offences.
The arrest was made in connection with an incident where a man was assaulted after being ordered at gunpoint to get in a van in north Belfast.
The victim was approached alongside one other man in the Dunblane Avenue area at around 8pm.
The pair were then taken in a white Berlingo van and driven away.
It's believed they travelled to Black Mountain where the alleged assault occurred, before the vehicle travelled to the Oldpark area.
Detective Inspector O'Flaherty said, “We are working to establish exactly what occurred last night and we need the public’s help in establishing the movements of the van reported to have been involved.
“If you were in any of these areas between 7:45pm and 9pm and believe you saw this van, or have captured it on your dash cam, please contact our detectives at Musgrave on 101 and quote reference number 1620 10/12/20.
