Mauritian hotel worker - cleared of McAreavey murder - begins bid for £1m compensation

A Mauritian hotel worker cleared of the murder of Michaela McAreavey is starting a one million pound claim.

Six years on and Avinash Treebhoowoon begins his bid for compensation for what he calls is ‘trauma, humiliation and stress.’

He says he suffered alleged mistreatment by police and investigators.

The hotel worker was acquitted of the murder of the Ballygawley teacher along with co-accused Sandip Monea.

According to a Mauritian newspaper, Treebhoowoon says his family was "very humiliated" by what had happened to him.

Honeymooner Michaela was found dead in her hotel suite at the former Legends resort.

Last year John McAreavey vowed that 2017 would be a year of justice for Michaela. No one has been convicted.
