Mid Ulster police tackle anti-social driving and speeding alongside DVA

A joint operation between PSNI in Mid Ulster and their partner agency DVA was carried out in Cookstown, Coalisland and Clonoe at the weekend.

In Cookstown, vehicles were stopped and inspected for 'construction and use offences' on Molesworth Street, Fairhill and Loughfea areas, with several drivers getting a courtesy visit to the MOT centre. 

This is in response to residents highlighting vehicular anti-social behaviour and speed issues to local Police. 

Neighbourhood officers also worked closely with DVA in Clonoe and Coalisland town centre. 

In total, 6 prohibition notices were issued, 5 defect notices, 4 non endorsable fixed penalty notices and 1 endorsable fixed penalty notice for a defective tyre. 

1 van was also seized for using red diesel and Police are dealing with 2 people who were driving with no insurance. 

A spokesperson for PSNI Cookstown took to social media to say: 

"Please keep your car roadworthy and in good condition, it is for your own safety, your passengers and others using the road!

"Respect the roads and respect your licence!

"We are just highlighting the variety of motoring offences we deal with, it isn't fun to hand fines at any time especially in the run up to Christmas. 

"Drive safe and respect your local residents, keep your speed down and have courtesy by not parking in disabled bays without a valid badge!
