Wreathes were destroyed at Narrow Water memorial to 18 soldiers killed by the IRA.

There's been cross-community condemnation of the vandalism of a memorial to 18 soldiers who were killed by the IRA in 1979.

Poppy wreathes were destroyed and strewn across a memorial site at Narrow Water Castle.

Police say it happened yesterday (Thursday) morning at around 8:30am.

Sergeant Allister Patterson said, "We are treating this incident as a hate crime and I am appealing to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the vicinity recently, or anyone who may have information that could assist in our enquiries, to contact police in Newry on 101 quoting reference 264 of 25/05/17."

The DUP, UUP and Sinn Fein have condemned it as "disgraceful, appalling and wrong".
