Partially dismembered body found outside abandoned house in Cork

Gardai have launched a murder investigation after a partially dismembered body was found in the garden of a derelict house in Cork.

The body of the man was found by a neighbour who raised the alarm.

A full post mortem is due to take place.
 

Superintendent Michael Comyns said ,

"The body is that of a male who has yet to be identified and although results of a post-mortem are pending we are treating the death as murder. The scene is currently preserved and a full forensic and technical examination is underway. The Coroner has been notified and a post-mortem is currently being conducted at Cork University Hospital by Dr Heidi Okkers, Office of the State Pathologist. An incident room has been established at Anglesea Street Garda Station and a senior investigating officer has been appointed. Gardaí are currently harvesting CCTV footage and carrying out door to door enquiries in the area."

"We are appealing to anyone who can assist us with our investigation to contact us. The discovery was made at a derelict site on Boreenmanna Road, along a busy traffic route in and out of the city centre. We are appealing to both motorists and pedestrians who may have been in the area since Christmas Day to come forward. We are particularly appealing to motorists to make any camera footage (including dash-cam) from the area available to us."

"No arrests have been made to date. The investigation is ongoing and further updates will follow."
