The pond in Polepatrick Park cemetery in Magherafelt has been sealed off by temporary fencing.
It follows concerns from the public about the dangers it poses to children.
The pond is covered in green algae - and parents say it’s difficult to establish where the grass ends and the water begins.
Dredging is to be carried out by Mid-Ulster District Council.
A message posted on social media called for barriers to be erected around the pond.
