Police warn retailers to be wary of money changing scam

After a recent number of incidents in the district, Fermanagh and Omagh police are warning retailers of money changing scams. 

It's understood the exchange takes place when a number of people enter a business asking to change large notes into smaller ones. 

They then confuse the staff member by changing their request a couple of times. 

It's believed they end up leaving with more cash than they started with. 

Police are investigating and would appeal to anyone with information to contact them on the 101 number. 

Alternatively information can be given to the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111. 

Chief Inspector Graham Dodds said: 

" "Our advice is simple - if you are at all suspicious about any customer asking to change large monetary value notes for smaller notes refuse to carry out the transaction.

If you are apprehensive about any customer on your premises note down a description and/or car registration and contact your local station immediately.

The sooner we receive the report the better your chances of apprehending those involved. We would also encourage staff members to alert other shops and businesses about any suspicious persons."
