A woman aged in her 60s has been killed and six people have been taken to hospital following a crash in Co Mayo.
The two-vehicle collision took place on the N59 in Newport at around 4.30pm on Thursday.
The woman, a passenger, was seriously injured during the collision and pronounced dead at the scene.
Her body has been removed from the scene to the mortuary at Mayo University Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
The two other occupants of the same vehicle, a male and female, are receiving treatment for serious injuries at Mayo University Hospital.
Four people in the second vehicle were taken to Mayo University Hospital with injuries that are understood to be non-life threatening.
The N59, Newport to Mulranny road, has been closed as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators conduct a technical examination of the scene. Diversions are in place.
Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
