A woman with chronic sight problems has been awarded nearly 12 thousand pounds after her employer was found to have dismissed her unfairly.
Celia Luisa Pereira da Costa was a production operative for Summer Garden Salads Limited, and her work involved preparation of fresh vegetables.
When the company moved from frozen to fresh, peeling onions caused her pain in her eyes, and forced her to attend a clinic in hospital while off work.
Her employment was terminated, but a tribunal found the company failed to make adjustments for her disability.
She was assisted by the Equality Commission in taking her case, and Mary Kitson is their Senior Legal Officer.
