Glentoran have moved to strengthen their squad for the title run-in.

The Danske Bank Premiership leaders have signed American midfielder Dillon Powers.

The 31-year-old from Dallas previously played in the MLS and spent two seasons with Dundee United.

He moves to east Belfast after a spell with Orange County SC of California in the USL Championship, the second tier of senior football in the USA.

Before that, he'd helped Dundee United win promotion, then consolidate in the SPFL.

He has been capped by the USA at Under 18 and Under 20 level.

Dillon’s father, Michael Powers, had a long and successful football career with the Dallas Sidekicks where for three years he was a teammate of Glentoran 1970s midfield legend, Victor Moreland.

Glens boss Mick McDermott said: "We have been tracking and in communication with Dillon since his time at Dundee United. He had considered joining us in the summer but decided to return to the US where he completed a successful season with Orange County.

"He is a player with experience in MLS, Scottish Premier league as well as US National teams and can play several key positions. His natural position is central midfield where his ability, experience and physical presence will definitely add to our already strong team.

"We know that he will be a success at Glentoran."
