Police Scotland's actions in the lead-up to the murder of a woman who is believed to have been killed by her ex-partner are being investigated.
Lee Greenan, 46, had been accused of murdering Vikki Soloman, 44, at a house in Edinburgh's Craigievar Square on 20 July.
Police Scotland said the mum-of-two was found with serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Greenan made no plea to the charges of assault to injury, murder, and assault when he appeared before Edinburgh Sheriff Court last week.
He was remanded in custody and found dead at HMP Edinburgh on Sunday morning.
The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) has now confirmed Police Scotland was contacted before the murder.
Raymond Brown, head of investigations for PIRC, said: "Our thoughts are with all of those who have been affected following the tragic death of 44-year-old Vikki Soloman in Edinburgh on 20 July 2026.
"We are investigating the police contact that was made prior to this date and will report our findings to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service in due course."
Sky News contacted Police Scotland for a response but was directed towards PIRC and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS).
A COPFS spokesperson said: "COPFS has instructed PIRC to carry out an independent investigation into the circumstances of the death of a 44-year-old woman in Edinburgh on 20 July 2026.
"A report will be submitted to COPFS following the investigation by PIRC."

In a statement released through Police Scotland on Monday, Ms Soloman's family said they were "determined to pursue justice" for the murdered aesthetician.
They added: "The loss of a devoted mother has left an irreplaceable loss.
"Furthermore, news of the passing of Lee Greenan, the man charged with her murder, is another bitter blow to the family."
Police Scotland previously told Sky News officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with Ms Soloman's death and there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding Greenan's death.
The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) said a fatal accident inquiry (FAI) would be held in "due course".
