Real Madrid have defended their players' right to have differing views after Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior became embroiled in a debate in Spain about migration.
Both Real Madrid and rival team Elche wore t-shirts before their La Liga match with a message in support of the people of Ceuta - but Mbappe and Vinicius rolled them up to chest height to partly obscure the words.
And Real teammate Ibrahima Konate held his shirt in his hands.
The small Spanish city is located on the North African coast and was overwhelmed by a migrant surge of more than 70,000 people, mostly from Morocco, at the end of July.
There have been ongoing protests in Ceuta and on the Spanish mainland over the government's handling of the situation.
Players for home side Elche and Real Madrid were expected to wear the shirts before Tuesday's game, but Mbappe and Vinicius obscured the message.
The message on the shirts was "Todos somos caballas", which locally means "We are all from Ceuta".
Caballa is "mackerel" in Spanish and is used locally to also mean a resident of the Spanish enclave.
The players did not speak about it after the match, which Real Madrid won 3-2. But their gesture has prompted a response in Spain.
Some people argued the players were showing solidarity with the plight of the migrants, while others criticised them for not fully supporting the Spanish citizens of Ceuta.
Others blamed the business group which organised the shirt initiative for putting the players on the spot.
La Liga said it had approved the shirt gesture, while Elche and Real Madrid also provided their official support.
Real Madrid said the shirts were to "show support for Ceuta", which is still struggling to provide for the thousands of migrants who remain in the city.
A club official said Real Madrid had accepted Elche's request to show such support in solidarity and wear the shirts.
But the club added it respected differing opinions and gave each player the freedom to decide whether to wear the shirt.

Last week, Real Madrid organised a display in support of Ceuta in a section of their ground for their Champions League match against Inter Milan.
On Monday, Villarreal and Real Betis players also wore the shirts ahead of their La Liga clash.
