Search for missing Belgian hillwalker who disappeared in the Scottish Highlands

A search has been launched for a missing Belgian man who has disappeared while hillwalking in the Scottish Highlands.

Hector Patemore, 45, was last seen on the Isle of Skye at about 10.45am on Sunday.

He left Glenbrittle Youth Hostel and planned to climb Sgurr na Banachdich, descending via Coire na Banachdich in the Cuillin Ridge mountain area.

Mr Patemore, who lives in Belgium, failed to return to his accommodation and has not been in contact with his family.

He was reported missing at about 10.25pm.

Police Scotland described Mr Patemore as 6ft 4ins tall, slim, and with a shaved head and stubble.

He was wearing a red jacket, a mustard-coloured hooded top, and a hat.

It is also believed he was carrying a rucksack.

Sergeant David Mockett, of Police Scotland, said: "Hector is an experienced hillwalker, and the route he planned to take is considered relatively straightforward."

He added: "We are growing increasingly concerned for his wellbeing and are appealing for anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to please get in touch.

"We are particularly keen to speak with any fellow hillwalkers who were in the area on Sunday, 13 September, and may have seen Hector or know anything which could help pinpoint his location and route."
