People in Taiwan have been changing their name to 'salmon' to take advantage of a sushi meal deal.

Dozens of people in Taiwan have changed their name to 'salmon' to take advantage of a

meal deal.

Officials are pleading for citizens to stop visiting government officers to request the name change, which allows them to get an all-you-can-eat sushi meal.

Unimpressed officials said that the spate of name changes was wasting government time and reminded people that their names can only be legally changed three times.

The offer began earlier this week when sushi restaurant chain Akindo Sushiro said anyone with the Chinese characters in their name could get free food for themselves and five friends.

According to local media, one student changed her name to 'Kuo Salmon Rice Bowl' but was planning to change it back the following day.

Other fishy names included 'Salmon Prince', 'Meteor Salmon King' and 'Salmon Fried Rice'.
