Appliance damaged as firefighters attacked in Portrush

Firefighters have escaped injury in Portrush after coming under attack as they responded to numerous calls to the same address. 

It's understood a brick was thrown at emergecency crews in the early hours of this morning - smashing the lights of one fire engine.  

It happened in the Glenbush area of the town - and involved only one individual.  
    
Services have not been disrupted. 

Councillor John McAuley is warning that such attacks can have serious consequences.   

A PSNI spokesperson said: "At approximately 3.40 am this morning, police received a report that criminal damage had been caused to a NIFRS vehicle responding to an incident in the Glenbush Drive area of Portrush.

"It was reported that as the appliance was leaving the area it was struck with an object."

It's understood it was the second call out to the address within just a few hours.   

Meanwhile firefighters in Donaghadee are involved in an ongoing rescue operation after a cow fell into a slurry tank.  

Three fire engines and a specialist animal rescue team have attended the incident which happened at a farm on the Killaughey Road.
