The security alert in Derry-Londonderry has now ended and people have been allowed to return to their homes.
Police say the device left on the doorstep of the parents of a PSNI officer was an elaborate hoax.
Twenty families were evacuated this morning after a device made to look like a pipe bomb was discovered shortly after 7am by the home owner.
All roads are now open.
