The Rivers Agency has put a halt on a Flood alleviation scheme that was due to take place in Omagh.
Major work was supposed to go towards re-aligning the River Strule through the project. The river course would have been straightened to let the water flow with ease and it would prevent a build up of water.
The Fermanagh and Omagh district council has now been told that the scheme will not go ahead at the moment, as there is potential that it may have a negative impact on the Strule Education Campus that is to be built near the river.
Phase one of re-alignment is close to where playing fields and changing facilities are to be built for the new shared education campus.
The Fermanagh and Omagh district council has since written to the Infrastructure Minister and asked for to reverse the decision to deter the project.
Chris Hazzard has responded in saying they are still committed to the scheme.
The decision to put back the project has also sparked uncertainty for the future of other developments that are due to take place; one being the Riverside Walk.
