Gun and ammo found during dissident search in Strabane

Detectives investigating dissident republican activity have uncovered a gun and a quantity of ammunition in Strabane.

The find was made during a planned search in the Spout Road area and the items have been removed for examination.

Detective Inspector Anthony Kelly said: "The PSNI’s priority will always be to protect communities and keep people safe from harm, and today's search demonstrates that we will continue to work with our communities to disrupt the activities of this small group of people who are intent on using violence.

Detectives from the PSNI’s Terrorism Investigation Unit have recovered a suspected firearm and ammunition in Strabane. Police say it’s “part of an ongoing investigation into violent Dissident Republican activity.”
