Ulster Unionist Assembly Member Sandra Overend says she hopes the Seamus Heaney centre will boost the area’s profile.
The new facility promises cultural, economic, social and educational benefits to the community.
Mrs Overend says HomePlace is significant in extending the legacy of Seamus Heaney and his work.
The Mid Ulster Ulster Unionist MLA says the centre is a hugely impressive structure.
“There has been some discussion around the amount of investment and whether the Centre is appropriate, but given his literary contribution which transcended culture and borders, I feel HomePlace is significant in extending the legacy of Seamus Heaney and his work. It is important, though, that this centre blends well into the locality in which it sits and that the local people are able to call in their own,” she adds.
She says there is potential for HomePlace to be an economic catalyst for Bellaghy with local businesses benefiting.”
