South Down MLA Jim Wells says his career's "been tarnished beyond repair."
The former Health Minister was speaking to Q Radio after one of his accusers publicly apologised to him.
Dungannon woman Dorothy Gardner admitted lying when she filed a police complaint against Mr Wells.
She accused him of making homophobic remarks about same-sex parents.
Mr Wells later resigned as Health Minister.
He says although he forgives Gardner his career's already damaged.
Speaking on the Q Cafe, he said: "I have to accept that I'm going to languish on the backbenches for the rest of my career because of this issue.
That's a painful experience but at least I want to be vindicated."
