The PSNI has advised that the Shore road from Warrenpoint Baths to past Well Road is likely to be closed for the remainder of Wednesday.
The SDLP's Margaret Ritchie sends condolences to the family of the local man.
She said: “I am greatly saddened to hear of the news of a local man who tragically lost his life on the Shore Road in Warrenpoint this afternoon. I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased following this heart-breaking incident.
"This tragedy once again highlights the dangers that we face on our roads and it always poignant for people to die as a result of car accidents.
"I would urge everyone to take due care whilst on the road. Not enough credit is given to our emergency services who so often have to deal with the terrible aftermath of road traffic collisions. They must have our full support and sympathy in times such as these.
