Councillor Kim Ashton of the DUP has been named Chair at the Council's Annual General Meeting yesterday evening.
She will serve for one year with Councillor Mark Glasgow of the UUP as the Council's Deputy Chair.
Councillor Ashton was the Deputy Chair of the Council in 2015-2016.
Speaking at the meeting she said she was honoured to be appointed:
“I’m all about working on the ground and that’s what I plan to do in the year ahead. I intend to live up the Council’s strap line and to be ‘at the heart of our community’ and will put everything I have into the role”.
Speaking after his appointment, Councillor Glasgow who has been a councillor since May 2014, said:
“It’s a great honour and privilege to be appointed to the role and I look forward to working with the new Chair to uphold the values of this Council”.
Both positions are for one year.
