Police are investigating a sudden death in Newry, Co Down.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police are currently at the scene of a sudden death in the Cowan Street area of Newry.
“Inquiries are continuing.”
An ambulance service spokesperson said: “The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 1854 on Monday January 30 following reports of an incident in the Cowan Street area of Newry.
“NIAS despatched a rapid response paramedic, two emergency crews and an ambulance officer to the incident.
“Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, nobody was taken to hospital.”
In a Twitter post Newry and Armagh Sinn Fein urged people to avoid the area.
The post said: “There has been a sudden death this evening in Cowan Street.
“A police operation is ongoing and I would encourage people to avoid the area until further notice.
“Our thoughts are with the family of those involved.”
