Post mortem of suspected murder victim to take place on Wednesday

A post mortem exam on the body of a man found dead in a car in Lisburn yesterday wont take place until tomorrow.

A 44 year old man arrested on suspicion of murder also remains in hospital. 

The body of a man was discovered in a car in Limehurst Way at around 4.20pm on Monday afternoon. 

Police are treating the death as suspicious and say a post mortem examination is due to take place. 

QRaido understands a number of shots were fired in the Forthill area and the case is being treated as a possible domestic incident. 

It's believed the man who died was father of four, Gerry Mulligan who was in his 60's.

Friends and neighbours say he was a keen mechanic and a friendly face within the area. 

Roads in the area have been sealed off and forensic teams are at the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Peter Montgomery said: “Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of man whose body was discovered in a car in the Limehurst Way area of Lisburn this afternoon, Monday 26 September.

"A 44 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

"We would appeal to anybody who may have information in relation to this suspicious death or who was in the area of Limehurst Way today between 9.00am and 5.00pm to contact detectives at the incident room in Lisburn on 101.“

"Police do not believe that there is any paramilitary involvement in this incident."
