A recruitment drive for more LGBT police officers will make "massive strides in normalising their equality".
Chair of Newry Rainbow Community Rory Rafferty, was speaking after news that the PSNI is to hold events to attract new LGBT recruits, for the first time.
They hope to get fill 300 vacancies by April next year, with information evenings planned in Belfast and Newry early next month.
