Main Street has been reopened

The security alert in Cushendun has now ended.

The suspicious object found has been removed for examination and declared a hoax.

Main Street has reopened to traffic.

Earlier, a security alert at Carrickfergus was ended and declared an elaborate hoax.

Last night, youths in Derry-Londonderry threw petrol bombs and fireworks at police after a security alert there.

A suspicious object was discovered, but later declared a hoax.
