Derry City and Strabane District Council have launched a packed programme of events and workshops to encourage more local people and visitors to discover and interact with their service
Their Autumn Winter Learning Programme will run from November to January and contains events and workshops suitable for all audiences.
The schedule begins this Tuesday, November 8th, with the first in a series of ‘Tower Talks’ exploring various aspects of local history.
Acting Education Officer at Derry City and Strabane District Council, Ronan McConnell, encouraged the public to embrace the new programme and take advantage of the opportunity to learn more about local art and history.
He said: “We hope the new programme will attract both local people and visitors to come along to the museum and learn more about our heritage, take part in heritage crafts and view the collections within the museum,”
The series of Tower Talks are among the highlights of the programme and will focus on local history including a World War One from Mabel Colhoun as well as talks on culinary practice and the Derry City Cemetery Records Project.
Families may be particularly interested in a series of three Christmas Craft workshops where people can join in making decorations and view the museum’s heritage toy collections.
This Tuesday’s ‘Tower Talk’ begins at 7.30pm and will be hosted by Nic Wright from Hearthside Heritage.
Along the way, the audience will have the opportunity to taste a variety of traditional foods from Bronze Age hearth cakes to plantation pottage.
