Northern Ireland’s farming college is going to be given a £75m boost in a bid to grow the region’s agri-food industry, Agriculture Minister, Edwin Poots, has said.
Two of the College of Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) campuses - in Cookstown, in County Tyrone, and in Antrim will be completely revamped by the funding.

Announcing the cash injection, Mr Poots, who is currently campaigning to replace Arlene Foster as leader of the DUP, said: “CAFRE has a well renowned reputation within the agri-food industry for providing excellent tuition and training facilities for the next generation of farmers, growers and agri-food personnel.
“I am delighted to announce a £75million investment which will revolutionise the facilities at CAFRE and underpin future sustainable growth of the Northern Ireland agri-food industry.
Martin McKendry, College Director, said the investment was needed to help support students at the college. He added: “I look forward to seeing the impact of this work as each stage of the project is completed.”
