Blooming brilliant show for Castlecaulfield

Castlecaulfield has scooped two awards at Britain in Bloom.

The village received a gold award in the Village category - and an overcoming adversity award.

Floral displays were destroyed by vandals on several occasions.

Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Trevor Wilson, says he was delighted to see Castlecaulfield honoured.

"The entire community, from one end of the village to the other, puts in a huge amount of work to create and maintain the floral displays. Everyone deserves to be congratulated, particularly this year when vandals did so much damage. Community spirit beats that kind of behaviour every time and Castlecaulfield is testament to that. Their success is an inspiration," he says.

And Rosemary Barton, Ulster Unionist Assembly Member for Fermanagh and South Tyrone, says Castlecaulfield Horticultural Society has expended a great deal of time and energy in ensuring their village was looking its best.

"Their recent victory in the Ulster in Bloom competition has really highlighted their dedication and hard work. Their displays are a wonderful reflection of the pride that the community has taken in their village with guidance from the Horticultural Society," she adds.
