A young child has been left in a critical condition in hospital after being hit by a car in Newtownards.
It happened on the Movilla Road at around 5.20 yesterday evening.
A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving.
A PSNI spokesperson said "The collision involving a silver coloured Volkswagon Golf and a young pedestrian occurred at around 5.20pm.
"The pedestrian has since been taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition.
"A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving and is currently in custody assisting with police enquiries.
"The Movilla Road remains closed at this time and local diversions are in place."
