Forensic examiners to look at suspicious items found near an Irvinestown school

A number of suspicious items found near a school in Fermanagh will be taken away for forensic tests.

They were discovered around the Lisnarick Road in Irvinestown earlier.

Inspector Rory Hoy said: “When it comes to public safety we cannot take chances, and we would like to thank local people and the wider community in Irvinestown for their patience and understanding throughout the operation.

“A number of items have been seized by police following the search and taken away for further forensic examination.  

“I would appeal for anyone with information about this incident to please contact us. It is only with your help that we can make our communities safer."

Earlier, Erne North Councillor Raymond Farrell, DUP says he was made aware of a suspect device across from the school. 

He said: 

"At this point in time we don't know how genuine this is, but for young children who are getting settled back in to a new term as well as the staff in the school; this is very, very alarming. 

"My thoughts are very much with the children and their parents as well as the staff and I certainly hope this is not a device and the children get back into school and that they get settled back into their work."
