"The Union flag should never have been removed from Magherafelt in the first place".
That's according to Mid Ulster Councillor Trevor Wilson.
Yesterday Council workmen chopped down a flag-pole that had been re-erected by loyalists.
The previous one, which had flown for over 50 years, was removed last year for a Public Realm Scheme.
Council Chair Mr Wilson says he's still not clear how the Union flag-pole was included in the Scheme's original plans, but removed later.
