Downpatrick to Get First Artisan Market

A new initiative to bring an Artisan Market to Downpatrick was launched today in Down County Museum by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Roisin Mulgrew.

The programme has been developed in partnership with Down Community Collective and Down Community Arts and is part of a Council-wide pilot scheme to introduce a number of similar markets across the district.

The plan will see the courtyard of Down County Museum become the home of the new Downpatrick Artisan Market.
 

Councillor Mulgrew said:

“I am delighted to launch this exciting new initiative for Downpatrick. 

"It is hoped that the market will become a regular attraction in the town and encourage visitors to the Museum and the wider area.

"Local food producers and crafters have been keen to get involved and there should be quality products to suit all tastes.

"Artisan markets are growing in popularity and are a welcome addition to the attractions of the area.

"The Council is also committed to the Make it Local campaign and the Artisan Market Pilot Scheme will make a valuable contribution to this initiative across the district.

"This new market will offer both residents and visitors the opportunity to purchase locally made produce and crafts and will also offer families an entertaining day out.”

The first Artisan Market will be held in the courtyard of Down County Museum on Saturday 21 April from 11am to 3pm.
