Detectives in Newtownards are trying to find out how a man was left seriously hurt in hospital.
It's thought he was assaulted in a house on Mark Street this morning.
Police were called at around 2.40pm this afternoon after the man was admitted.
Detective Chief Inspector Alan Dickson said: "We are working to establish how this gentleman sustained his injuries.
"I would appeal to anyone who was in the Mark Street area of Newtownards and noticed any suspicious activity to contact Detectives at Bangor on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 747 08/06/17.
"Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."
