A cross-community collective is through to the final application stage for a £5m grant.
Newry, Mourne and Down council is spear-heading the group which includes community associations.
It plans to build a cross-community Peace Centre.
If it goes ahead, it will feature sports ground an 'interpretive centre, conference rooms and community facilities.
