The Sinn Fein MLA says that bird fouling from overhead power cables needs to be addressed
Sinn Féin MLA Philip McGuigan has said the issue of bird fouling from overhead power cables has to be tackled.
“This is a seasonal issue which affects a small but not insubstantial amount of citizens." said Mr McGuigan “I have visited homes in Glenravel, Loughgiel, Dunloy and Portglenone within the last week and it affects both rural and urban dwellers.
He added that roofs, windows, cars, gardens and driveways are affected on a daily basis. this leads to the public having to power hose their homes and yards as well as cleaning their cars.
"This issue needs to be addressed in order to preserve public health and safety." said Mr McGuigan "NIE should do more to find a reliable solution."
The MLA suggested the problem should also be addressed at the planning stage, with underground power cables considered where possible. He added that overhead power cables should be diverted away from houses.
