Plans to construct two new playparks at Magheramason and Newtonstewart have been approved.
Land running adjacent to Mourne Park and Mourne Walk will be transformed with play equipment, pathways and landscaping work.
Meanwhile, a new park and multi-use games area will be constructed close to Bready Cricket Club.
Members of Derry City and Strabane District Council Planning Committee were informed at a meeting in the Guildhall on Wednesday that the site is currently being used as an informal play area and that the proposal includes the introduction of new play equipment and MUGA facilities.
Welcoming the decisions, the Chairperson for the Planning Committee Cllr John Boyle said:
“This is great news for the people of Newtownstewart and Magheramason and will bring much benefit to the entire local community in terms of leisure and play provision. The Council is delighted to do what it can to support projects that promote local social interaction, physical activity and exercise to local people and are delighted these two projects are progressing.”
