Tributes paid to Marchioness of Dufferin and Ava after death at 79

Tributes have been paid to the Marchioness of Dufferin and Ava.

The resident of the historic Clandeboye Estate in Co Down died aged 79 following a short illness.

Lady Dufferin, who was born Serena Belinda Rosemary Guinness, has been described as a “friend to so many” who was “beloved by all”.

A private funeral will take place at Clandeboye in line with coronavirus regulations.

Memorials are to be held at a later date at both Clandeboye and in London.

Lady Dufferin was well known for her engagement with the community as well as setting up the Clandeboye Estate Yoghurt business and opening an art gallery.

Tributes have been paid to her, including from local MLAs.

DUP MLA Gordon Dunne described news of her death as “very sad”.

“She made a significant contribution to the local economy through her lifetime of work in agriculture, the environment and the arts, and will be greatly missed,” he tweeted.

Alliance MLA Andrew Muir tweeted: “So sad to learn that Lady Dufferin has passed away.

“Lindy lived a really full life playing a massively positive role in North Down from her home at Clandeboye House where I was lucky to enjoy lunch with the Marchioness of Dufferin & Ava whilst Mayor.”
