Tributes pour in after the sudden death of young Irish League footballer

Tributes have been pouring in following the sudden death of a talented young Irish League footballer.

24-year-old Jerry Thompson, from north Belfast, played for Carrick Rangers.

He was initially listed to start for Carrick in a game against Glenavon on Tuesday night but his name was withdrawn before kick-off.

Carrick have described Jerry as a "larger than life character" who'll be "fondly remembered" and said he will "forever be a member of the Amber Army."

His previous teams included Cliftonville, Larne, Portadown, Ards and Donegal Celtic.

Players and clubs across the country have been paying tribute with many tweeting the mental health hashtag #ItsOkNotToBeOk

Former Northern Ireland and Man United player Pat McGibbon runs a charity dedicated to helping young people with their mental health.

His brother Phillip took his own life when Pat was playing in Manchester in the 1990s.
