The reinstatement of the Curriculum Sports Programme is being welcomed here.
It had been one of many at risk of funding cuts amid Stormont budgeting uncertainty.
But cash was found at the eleventh hour, and the Department of Education announced coaching will run until April next year.
Newry and Armagh MLA for the SDLP Justin McNulty told Q Radio it's good news all round:
Sinn Féin's culture arts and sport spokesperson, Sinéad Ennis has also welcomed the grant.
The South Down MLA said, "This announcement will be great news to the schools, coaches and children who benefit from this scheme.
“Today’s announcement alongside the £10 million being allocated to the Education Department will go some way to redressing the pressures on public services but the threat of Tory austerity continues to loom", she added.
