Linfield suffered a 2-1 defeat in their Europa Conference League game against Fola Esch at Windsor Park on Tuesday night.
It all started so well for the Blues when, as early as the ninth minute, loanee Billy Chadwick fired them in front with a composed finish past Emanuel Cabral after dispossessing Julien Klein.
Linfield held the advantage for an hour before the visitors levelled through Stefano Bensi with a curled finish into the top corner after being teed up by Bruno Frere.
Then, a couple of minutes from time, substitute Gauthier Caron handed the Luxembourg champions the win on the night after smashing home the rebound from a Bensi effort which Chris Johns did well to tip onto the post.
The sides meet again in Luxembourg next Thursday evening.
