Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill says he hopes Paul Smyth can act as an example to other youth players in the national set up.

The QPR striker came off the bench for his debut against South Korea - and scored the winner in the 2-1 friendly victory at Windsor Park.

Former Linfield star Smyth had played for the NI under-21s against Spain on Thursday night and was only drafted into the senior squad after late withdrawals.

The 20-year-old says scoring a couple of minutes into his first cap, five minutes from time, was a dream come true...

Paul also thanked his partner for her role in his success story in London and Belfast!

The other new NI players also did well on their debuts - goalkeeper Trevor Carson and full-back Jamal Lewis, as well as winger Jordan Jones who made his first start.

Ex-Man United and Northern Ireland defender Pat McGibbon says his former Wigan teammate O’Neill will have been impressed...

The 18,000-strong Green and White Army went home happy...

And they said QPR got a good deal in the transfer of their new hero Smyth!
